Export & logistics

Buying a mold from China without the usual surprises

Price is rarely the reason an offshore tooling project goes wrong. Missing documentation, unclear tool ownership, an unannounced extra week, a mold that arrives without its spare parts — those are. Since 2017 we have shipped tooling and molded parts to the USA, Canada, Germany, the UK, Poland, Ukraine, Denmark and the Netherlands, and this page documents how we do it.

  • Exporting since 2017
  • HS code used for tooling: 8480.71
  • Freight: sea, air or courier
Quick answer

Injection molds for plastics are normally declared under HS code 8480.71 (moulds for rubber or plastics — injection or compression types). CENTS ships tools in fumigation-free plywood cases with rust protection, a spare-part set and a documentation package (2D/3D drawings, steel and component certificates, dimensional report, running parameters). Delivery terms are normally FOB Yantian/Shenzhen or EXW, and air freight is used when a customer needs the tool fast. Duty rates and import procedures depend on your country, the declared value and the customs route your broker chooses — we provide the paperwork and answer their questions.

Documentation

What we prepare for your customs broker

Your broker decides the legal route; our job is to hand them a complete, consistent pack the first time, so the container does not sit in a bonded warehouse.

Standard export documentation
DocumentPurpose
Commercial invoice & packing listValue, description, weights, dimensions, HS code, case numbering
Mold specification & drawingsJustifies the classification and value of a custom tool rather than a generic “machine part”
Certificate of originOrigin declaration (including Form-type certificates where a trade agreement applies)
Steel & component certificatesMaterial grade traceability for your quality records
Dimensional / inspection reportEvidence of the tool condition at the moment of shipment
Packing list with photosPhotos of the case contents before sealing — useful if a claim is ever needed

We are a mold manufacturer, not a customs consultancy: duty rates, tariff classifications in your jurisdiction and any trade-agreement eligibility should be confirmed with your own broker. We will supply whatever information they require about the tool.

Packing & freight

How the mold actually travels

Packing

Mold surfaces cleaned and protected against rust, water circuits drained and plugged, moving parts secured, the tool fixed to a fumigation-free plywood case with rust-preventive film, and the spare-part set packed inside the same case with an itemised list.

Freight modes

Air freight when the tool is on a critical launch date — fast but expensive for heavy steel. Sea freight for everything else, consolidating well when you also order production parts. Courier for small prototype tools, inserts and spare parts.

Terms

Quotations are normally FOB Yantian/Shenzhen or EXW, so you keep control of the freight forwarder and the insurance. If you prefer us to arrange door delivery, tell us the destination port or address and we will quote it.

Before shipment you always see: photos of the packed tool and case, the final inspection data, the case list and the freight documents. The balance payment and the shipping instruction are agreed against those, so nothing leaves the plant unseen.

Russia & Ukraine

Press molds from China, quoted and documented in English

Buyers in Russia and Ukraine have been part of our order book since 2017 — tooling and molded parts shipped direct, alongside our German, Polish and North American work. The project runs in English end to end: DFM before any steel is cut, T1 samples you approve before the balance is due, and a documentation set that travels with the tool.

How these buyers search in English

press mold supplier China · press form tooling · custom injection mould for Russia and Ukraine · mold maker China with English-speaking project engineers · tooling lead time 2–6 weeks for press molds

Parts and molding, same terms

injection moulded parts supplier · custom plastic parts from China · molded components with English-speaking project engineers · parts and tooling from one factory

What travels with the tool

Under HS 8480.71: 2D and 3D mold drawings, steel and component certificates, the T1 CMM dimensional report, the molding parameter sheet, packing list and invoice — the papers your customs broker and your molder both ask for.

Working language

Send the 3D data, the resin and the annual volume in English. The mold price, the molded-part price, the cycle estimate and the written DFM report come back in English, and the technical contact stays the same engineer through T1.

Tool transfer

Your mold, your property, your choice of molder

A tool that cannot be moved is leverage against you. We design every project so that the tool can be transferred, maintained and re-run without us.

Standard components

Molds are designed around recognised standard components, so replacement pins, springs, seals and hot-runner consumables are available from the industry supply chain rather than from us alone.

Complete documentation handover

2D and 3D drawings, mold assembly and plate drawings, water-circuit diagrams, hot runner wiring details, the running-parameter sheet and the dimensional report.

Transfer support

If your molder has questions during the first runs, we answer by email, WhatsApp or video call — including parameters for their press tonnage and barrel.
